Without any structure to the days apart from scheduled meal times, and without even the veil of any sort of responsibilities to dance around, Cassidy's life in the castle had become a cobbled-together 'routine' of sex, drugs, eating, bathing, and sleeping, dictated by whichever he was most in the mood for at the moment.
He'd been in the middle of a cat nap on his bed when he heard the knock, and was groggily considering not answering it before he heard Airy's voice.
"Just a sec," he called out through the door. He'd been sleeping naked, which was nothing she'd never seen before, but he did have some consideration for public spaces such as hallways. It took him less than a minute to pull on a pair of grey sweatpants and a zip-up hoodie, which he left hanging open over his chest.
He answered the door with a smile, under sleepy eyes and bed-tossed hair. "Hello, you. What's goin' on?"
Airy's mouth tugged into a half smile when she saw Cassidy open up the door. "I woke you up." She knew him well enough to know what activity she had interrupted and his bed hair was kind of cute.
"Sorry." She didn't look all that apologetic about waking him. "I brought you something. A present. Which actually makes me wonder if vampires celebrate Birthdays..." Airy paused, squinted, and then waved away the thought. "That isn't why I'm here, I mean I did bring you something but not because of an event. I saw it and thought of you and wanted to give it to you."
She flashed him a wider smile. "Mind if I step inside? I'll get out of your hair but only after you open it."
His smile has got a bit brighter as he’d listened. He might have pointed out how sweet she was, but he was afraid of sounding like a broken record.
“You’re no bother at all. C’mon in.” He pushed the door open farther and stepped back to give her space.
The room had more of a ‘lived-in’ sense now. If nothing else, the smattering of drug paraphernalia on the nightstand spoke to a certain level of comfort in the space. Cassidy moved to flop himself down on the bed, then sat up near the head of it, giving her plenty of space to join him.
“I still remember when my birthday is,” he mused. “Still keep track of the years, for what that’s worth... ‘cept I seem to have skipped over it in comin’ here. Goin’ clear from late summer to Christmastime. Throws a bloody wrench into me personal calendar.”
He eyed the package in her hands. “But we can call it a late birthday present, if you like. Or an early one. See? It’s very confusin’.”
Airy's grin flashed brighter as she stepped inside. She moved the parcel behind her back despite the fact that there was no hiding it from view. Her torso was to small to keep him from seeing it but she enjoyed the ruse.
Her eyes quickly flicked around the his room before she stepped over to join him on the bed. She was a little surprised that he hadn't run out of drugs yet but that was a good thing.
"That's fine, same happened to me." She pushed a bit of hair behind her ear. "This is just a gift. But you have to tell me when your birthday is so that I can get you something then too." Airy was very happy that he was born and she was a fan of giving people gifts, even if they're small silly items.
"Okay, so I actually got you two things and one was for a selfish reason but I want to start with this." She slipped her fingers between the folds of the parcel and pulled out a bracelet. "I saw this and thought of you. I kind of hope you like it and wear it but you don't have too."
Typically, Cassidy didn't put much value in clothing and accessories. He had things he liked, but he sort of collected them like a magpie rather than going out of his way for them. If the fairies hadn't been willing to give him clothing for sort-of-free, he likely would've gone on wearing the basic linens for a long time.
All that was to say he probably wouldn't have bought the bracelet for himself, and as a present, it was unexpected.
"Oh!" He took it from her and looped it around the wrist opposite the gold bracelet, giving it a try. "Well, look at that. That's quite nice."
"So you like it? It isn't lame or anything?" Airy didn't really know what sort of clothing Cassidy liked since he wore a mod-podge of different things but she had thought the bracelet would suit it. It wasn't the first time she had given a man a bracelet as a gift but she never knew how it would go.
Her lips tugged into a nervous smile as she placed the brown parcel in his lap. It had a blue plaid shirt in it that would be a good thing to wear with the weather slowly warming.
"I like what you wear. For the record." Airy proclaimed as she enticed Cassidy to pull at the brown wrapping. "But I wasn't kidding when I said I liked plaid so..." He'd have to open the parcel to see what Airy meant. She was probably going to get teased for this but Airy didn't really care, as long as it was Cassidy that was teasing her.
"Totally not lame," he confirmed... then lifted an eyebrow at the package while she started to elaborate about it. She'd bought him something plaid... for selfish reasons. As he started to unwrap the package, his best guess was underwear. The truth turned out to be a lot less salacious.
"It's a shirt." He picked it up by the shoulders, shook it and looked at it from both sides. "Nice. Feels soft. I like the color."
He put it down again to shrug off the hoodie, then set about trying the shirt on.
Airy didn't see the point of buying a guy underwear. He could wear the shirt during sex, underwear always got discarded to the floor.
She watched silently as he pulled off his hoodie and put on the blue plaid shirt. "I wanted you to wear it. I said it before but plaid looks very good on you." Airy bit her lower lip before leaning forward and gently pressing a kiss against his cheek.
"And you can keep it on too, during other things." She wasn't very subtle.
"So you're saying not to buy you a cowboy hat?" Airy smiled at him. She was entirely joking about the hat but she was curious as to what Cassidy's reaction might be to the idea. Even mild kinks made some people wince.
"I should probably try out some more creative kink's."
The question made him snort out another laugh. "You don't wanna hear my Texan accent, though. I promise you it's god-awful."
Unlike some other people he could name, although he wouldn't.
As for kinks: "Some of the more elaborate stuff, I've never seen the point of. Dressin' up in costumes, or bloody clown makeup. All that set-up just to have a few orgasms."
He frowned slightly, having an internal debate with himself over the topic before going on: "I've seen people get suspended, though. You know, that bloody — what d'you calls it — the Japanese rope knots. And, don't get me wrong, it was nice to look at. Some real artistry there. But I doubt I'd ever have the patience."
"See, now I'm curious." Cassidy had a way of phrasing it that made Airy want to hear him attempt a Texan accent. She can't imagine that it'd be very good but she was eager to be proven wrong. Or right, Airy wasn't all that picky.
"That sounds like a lot. I don't see clowns as sexy." She squinted as if really considering it before pushing the thought aside.
"With rope? Then what about more simple kinks?" Airy hadn't talked about kinks with a lot of people and she was curious as to what, if anything, Cassidy liked. "What about lazy kinks? Like being in the shower." Which they now had access too.
“Right, well, if you wanna get me a cowboy hat, I’ll give it the old college try. How about that?”
For her, he would. If she really wanted it that much.
“Now, shower sex, that’s sommat else,” he conceded with a hint of interest. He leaned over, placing a hand on the bedspread behind her. “Bit hot and slippery, different sort of logistics from a bed or a wall — have you never done it?”
Airy's smile widened. "Really?" She didn't know if she was going to go through the trouble of getting a cowboy hat but she was happy that he was willing to try something for her. "I mean, yeah. If I get one."
Maybe.
She turned towards him, one leg curling beneath her on the bed as she met his gaze. "No but I want to try it." Airy's had bath sex but not shower sex. The showers were newer and she mostly used them to quickly wash off before disappearing back to her room. "Do you think we could do it without someone getting hurt?" Her voice was light and a little teasing. Airy thought they could do it but she liked being playful with Cassidy.
"Oh, sure," he said, without a hint of hesitation. He believed in them. "No question. Just have to take a bit of care with it."
And he would definitely be down for giving it a try, far more readily than the game with the cowboy hat. Maybe not immediately right now, but one wonderful thing about this place was its almost complete lack of daily structure.
Airy laughed softly and shook her head. "And no, I don't have plans." She didn't make plans all that often and when she did they were usually random and intimidate.
"Does that mean we should meet in the showers later?" It wasn't a difficult thing to orchestrate though they'd have to decide which showers. Airy had visited all of the bathing area's at one point out of pure curiosity so she at least knew where they all were.
Airy's smile widened. "A date, huh?" She felt her heart flutter in her chest and she idly wondered if Cassidy could hear it. "I don't think it's a traditional first date but I like it." Not that Airy knew anything about what was traditional with... whatever kind of dating this was.
"I've visited all of them actually. I love weather and the seasons so I wanted to check them out." She was one of those people who liked talking about the weather outside of just making small talk. "Spring is my favorite because of the cherry blossoms in the bath but we could go to fall. I think you'd like it better and that wing smells amazing."

"All right, all right. Point made." He nudged an elbow toward her side. "Why not? It's pretty tame, as far as kinks go."

He hadn't been thinking of it as a first date, exactly, but sure. He'd heard that flutter of delight in her voice.
He plucked at the front of his new shirt. "Thanks for thinkin' of me."

"I'll see you later in the fall showers."
It might not technically be their first date but it was the first time Cassidy had called it a date.
