He wouldn’t wait much longer before answering her question. He’d avoided it long enough.
“I don’t go lookin’ for people. Not since the one time. I mean... I look at people.” Which wasn’t the same as looking for them — right? “And I let things happen, too.” His voice was a touch quieter as he added: “Maybe a bit too often.”
He could admit that. He’d been adhering to the letter of the rules they’d set down, but maybe not always the spirit.
“You know, Matt — he considers himself the third person in this relationship,” he went on in a somewhat lighter tone, waving a finger between them. “D’you know that? He told me.”
