CHARACTER INFORMATION

NAME: Proinsias Cassidy
CANON: Preacher (TV)
CANON POINT: Mid-s1e9, Finish the Song
AGE: 119 (appears late 20s)

HISTORY: Biography on the Preacher wiki. His exact canon point is after he's been hiding out in Walter's house to heal, but before Jesse comes to see him. This would mean he'd be arriving with some pretty gnarly burns, still. He would take up the offer from the fairies to be healed by Eura, assuming she has some blood he can drink. If she doesn't, he'll have to go to the other favored for help.

PERSONALITY: In Cassidy's own words, he is "a lazy, lying, self-obsessed, drug-abusing, cheating fornicator with a filthy mouth and no ambition." He's the unemployed friend who decides to crash on your couch and never leaves. He's the guy you regret lending money to, because you know you'll never be getting it back. His favored haunts are drug dens and whore houses: the classy kind, when he can afford them, and the shit kind when he can't.

It wasn't so many years ago that Cassidy crossed the threshold that made him older than most humans are when they die. He's staring down the barrel of eternity, and he hasn't quite gotten to the point of really confronting what that means. Right now, he's a degenerate layabout for little other reason than he can be, endlessly, and sex and drugs are two of the easiest routs to staving off boredom.

Another way to do it is to never allow yourself to be bored. Cassidy has a knack for throwing himself into his current circumstances whole-heartedly, no matter what they might be. He could be in a fight, falling in love, talking philosophy or pop culture, or getting up to his usual hobbies of drugs and fornication. Whatever it is, he goes into it without reservation or hesitation. Yes, he's lazy and ambition-less in the sense that most of what he does never accomplishes anything tangible. But when it comes to living in the moment, finding whatever sort of fun there might be had in it, Cassidy is dedicated.

As far as "self-obsessed" goes, it's true that most of what Cassidy does is driven by the question of what would benefit him the most. It's not always about what would be most fun or pleasurable, though — often, it's about survival. Cassidy considers putting himself first among the things that have kept him alive for more than a century. But this should not be taken as a sign that Cassidy is incapable of caring about other people — only that, when the chips are down and a call has to be made, he's more likely to protect his own well-being than anyone else's.

This code of self-interest starts to bend when Cassidy finds himself entangled with other people. Because he can form very strong bonds with people with whom he feels a certain kinship, their well-being becomes an extension of his own. So it becomes his responsibility to look out for them, as well. Any attack on his friends is an attack on him, and for any problems they find themselves facing, Cassidy is more than willing to offer aid or advice — even when it isn't asked for.

And then, there's "lying." Though he may not always be truthful, Cassidy is often sincere. The things he says tend to have an emotional truth behind them, whether because it's what he actually believes, or what he thinks the other person needs to hear. This goes hand-in-hand with Cassidy's tendency to give a hundred percent when it comes to living in the moment. He is constantly assessing, adapting, and following his instincts and intuition. It's allowed him to survive this far, after all, so he sees no reason to stop.

POWERS/ABILITIES: Cassidy is a vampire, although most of the lore one usually associates with vampires doesn't apply to him. He isn't supernaturally strong or fast, he can't turn into a bat, he isn't repelled by crosses or holy water... he doesn't even require blood to survive. What follows is the sum total of the strengths and weaknesses that come with his vampirism:

Physical Stasis: In terms of his appearance, Cassidy is frozen at the age when he was turned. He can survive without breathing, and he has no heartbeat.

Healing: While he doesn't need to drink blood just to survive, Cassidy does drink blood when he finds himself facing an otherwise life-threatening — or sometimes, just plain annoying — injury. The worse the injury is, the more he needs, but the right amount of blood will let him come back from everything from a beating or a gunshot wound, all the way to severed limbs or being burned alive. If there is no blood available, he heals at the rate of a normal human, or, if the injuries would be fatal to a normal human, he endures a fuckton of pain until he can heal.

Can Create Other Vampires: How it works isn't spelled out exactly in canon, but Cassidy's bite can, under the right circumstances, cause another person to become a vampire. This is something Cassidy is shown to be very reluctant to do.

Weakness to the Sun: Direct sunlight causes Cassidy's skin to let off smoke, then blister, then light on fire, if he lets himself get exposed for more than a second. He can go outside during daylight as long as he's covered up by a sufficient amount of clothing, or standing in the shade.
